How to Tell if Your Double-Pane Windows Need to be Replaced

New double-pane windows offer a number of incentives for homeowners in Albany, one being improved energy efficiency. Regardless if you’re exploring online or with an associate at a showroom, energy efficiency is a crucial factor in the purchasing process for replacement windows. Double-pane windows are a great option if you’re wanting better efficiency.

Many new double-pane windows are full of argon, a colorless, nontoxic gas that is more dense than air, which leaves you with additional insulation from heat and cold.. However, if you notice that your windows have become “foggy” or if they have developed condensation, you may have developed a greater leak and the gas has been replaced with moisture. There are a couple things that you can do to check to see if this is what’s happened:

  1. Clean the exterior and interior portion of your glass to make sure that the condensation or fog you’re seeing is in between the glass, not on the glass.
  2. If you realize that the moisture is in fact between the glass, you can reach out to the manufacturer to decide if you can make a warranty claim.
Depending on how long your windows have been around and the conditions surrounding the leak, it may make sense to take a look at replacement windows. Insulation is one of the most important aspects of your windows, and if that is compromised it can impact your heating and cooling costs.
